Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous
Biography
| “ | The Storyteller is a mysterious elf traveler who arrived in Kenabres shortly before Deskari attacked. The strangest part about him is not his blindness, but the fact that he looks ancient, even though old age typically does not affect the appearance of elves. This enigmatic figure harbors many secrets. | „ |
An elven archmage from before the time of Earthfall, The Storyteller remained on Golarion while the rest of his race retreated to their home world. His goal was to find a way to preserve Golarion so that its people might survive the coming disaster. After many years of research and careful planning, he settled upon a plan to merge Golarion with The Abyss.
However, at the last moment, he realized he was about to doom Golarion to an even worse fate. He aborted the merging of the planes, and later his memory of these events and his entire past was erased.
The Storyteller then spent many centuries traveling Golarion and learning the stories of its people. All he knew of his past was that he was a skilled blacksmith, and that he could see the history of items that he touches.
In Pathfinder: Kingmaker, he served the lord/lady of a new barony for a time, providing advice and revealing stories of the past.
Sometime after this, he began to suspect that he played a major role in some historical events, and resolved to find out what it was. In stories, he had found references to himself as 'the elf in the tower', and began to search for this tower.
Just prior to the events of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, the Storyteller visited Mendev and requested to examine the Wardstones. Due to his impeccable reputation, he was allowed to examine them, and he discovered that the Kenabres wardstone had been corrupted and now carried a small vulnerability. He speculated that this may have happened during demon attacks on Kenabres over the years.
He was searching for ancient records from the time of Earthfall at the Blackwing Library when Deskari attacked Kenabres.
Act 1
In Act 1, the player may find the Storyteller at the Blackwing Library. If the cultists are able to set fire to the books, he will use protective magic to prevent being burned. This comes as a surprise to him, as he did not know he possessed such powerful magical abilities.
After bringing him back to the Defender's Heart, he will explain that he fears the demons will be able to take control of the entire network of wardstones and use them as a weapon. He has come to believe that the wardstone must be destroyed to prevent this. He then directs you to the Market Square to find the Purple Stone Knife, which can accomplish this.
Upon bringing him the knife for examination, he will receive a flashback of when Deskari killed his mother, as well as a vision of the future showing how you might use the knife to destroy the wardstone.
In this act you may also have him examine Elven Notes, Finnean, Radiance, and Terendelev's Scale. He can also give you the Notes for the Storyteller errand and The Dragon's Fate quest.
Act 2
In Act 2, the Storyteller stands near Irabeth's tent during the camp tour. If you enter your tent, he will depart on a personal journey until Act 3, so make sure you take care of any business with him first. He can examine Elven Notes from the Gray Garrison and he can restore The Covenant of the Inheritor for you if you collected 5 Magic Essence in Act 1. The story from the notes is that of Earthfall; the elves left Golarion behind while the Storyteller remained to attempt to help. In this story, it is also revealed that he was a powerful archmage with considerable skill and knowledge at his disposal.
Act 3
The Storyteller's tower is eventually found during The Dragon Hunt at the bottom of a canyon. According to the book event, his tower dates to the times of the Azlanti Empire before Earthfall. After defeating the dragon, he asks you to find any texts written with ancient elven runes.
On the main level, you can find a pedestal where a crystal had once been inserted. Since there are broken fragments of a purple crystal in the pedestal, it was likely removed very forcefully. There are protective runes on the upper level that can be examined using Knowledge (Arcana). These include a protective spell against thieves, a warning spell that makes a chilling howl, and a blinding trap.
The Storyteller will travel to Drezen after being rescued. When speaking to him there, he will explain that the tower used to belong to him and he went there seeking records of his past.
Turning in three Elven Notes will trigger the next chapter in his story, wherein he visited the Ivory Labyrinth to learn how Baphomet moved it from Hell to the Golarion. He is seeking to bring another plane together with Golarion to help its civilizations endure Earthfall. Although this would undoubtedly bring them into conflict with the residents of the other plane, it would give them a chance to survive.
